The Citizens Coalition for Change, Compton, CA wishes to express its deep appreciation for the tireless service and critical role the Compton Fire Department plays in safeguarding our community. Their quick response times, professionalism, and deep commitment to public safety are an essential foundation to the well-being of every Compton resident. We are proud to affirm that all fire hydrants in the City of Compton are regularly inspected and currently in perfect working order, thanks to the diligent efforts of our fire services and city maintenance teams.

However, our collective safety requires more than just preparation—it demands prevention. In light of the devastating Los Angeles fires this past January, and the recent explosion in West Rancho Dominguez near Compton—an incident that led to a large-scale evacuation and a hazmat investigation—we must take stronger preventative action.

The use and sale of fireworks in Compton poses an unacceptable risk to public health, property, and the lives of our residents. Fireworks may seem celebratory, but in our current fire-prone environment, they can quickly turn tragic. It only takes one spark to cause irreparable damage.

For these reasons, the Citizens Coalition for Change urges the City of Compton to strongly consider a city-wide ban on the sale and use of fireworks in the greater Compton area. This is not merely a quality-of-life issue—it is a matter of public safety and civic responsibility.

We stand ready to support the City in public outreach, education, and enforcement initiatives to make Compton a safer place for all. Let us act with foresight, not regret.

Citizens Coalition for Change

Dedicated to the prosperity and safety of our community.
